Rwanda: 20 years on

After 20 years, dark memories of the Rwanda Genocide are still scarring the nation. Walk through the church of Nyamata, where one of the massacres took place.

As Rwanda marks its Liberation Day, the anniversary of the Rwandan Patriotic Front’s defeat of government forces which effectively ended the 1994 genocide, photojournalist Martin Edström presents a panoramic tour of Nyamata church.

Thousands were killed here 20 years ago as they sought sanctuary; now the place serves as a memorial to the genocide.
